The vasoactive effects of bradykinin, vasoactive intestinal peptide, calcitonin gene‐related peptide and neuropeptide Y depend on the perivascular tissue in porcine retinal arterioles in vitro

The study aimed to explore the role of vasoactive neuropeptides and their receptors in regulating the tone of retinal arterioles. Using porcine arterioles with intact retinal tissue, the effects of various neuropeptides were tested through myograph experiments. Bradykinin, VIP, and CGRP caused dilation, while NPY led to a contraction in the presence of retinal tissue. Inhibition of NO, prostaglandin, and dopamine synthesis showed that bradykinin and VIP relaxation depended on NO. The study concludes that neuropeptides' impact on arteriolar tone involves retinal tissue and mechanisms beyond NO and may hold significance in treating retinal diseases with flow regulation issues.
