Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies in Early Pregnancy Linked to Maternal Metabolic Risks

The study explored the association between thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb) positivity in the first trimester and maternal metabolic syndrome during pregnancy in a retrospective review of 787 singleton pregnancies. Women positive for TPOAb exhibited significantly lower baseline HDL-C (1.51 vs. 1.62 mmol/L, p = 0.028) and higher rates of hypertensive disorders complicating pregnancy (15.8% vs. 6%, p < 0.0001), maternal metabolic syndrome (18.8% vs. 6.4%, p < 0.0001), and preeclampsia (7% vs. 2.5%, p = 0.024). Nonlinear associations between TPOAb levels and HDCP or metabolic syndrome were observed (both p < 0.001). Adjusted analyses revealed significantly elevated risks of HDCP (OR 3.029), metabolic syndrome (OR 2.841), and preeclampsia (OR 3.315).
