Thyroid Eye Disease: Mechanisms, Diagnosis, and Treatment Strategies

Thyroid eye disease (TED) is an autoimmune orbital disorder primarily affecting Graves’ hyperthyroid patients. It presents with varying severity and involves inflammation, proptosis, and optic neuropathy. Teprotumumab, targeting IGF-1R, shows superior outcomes in moderate-to-severe TED but has notable limitations. Steroids remain the global standard, while tocilizumab offers an option for steroid-resistant cases. Multidisciplinary care and quality-of-life evaluations are essential for comprehensive TED management.
