Tirzepatide reduces the predicted risk of developing type 2 diabetes in people with obesity or overweight

Tirzepatide, a potential game-changer, significantly slashes the 10-year predicted risk of developing type 2 diabetes (T2D) in individuals with obesity or overweight. Findings from a post hoc analysis of the SURMOUNT-1 trial reveal that tirzepatide outperforms placebo. At week 72, the tirzepatide groups (5mg, 10mg, and 15mg) witnessed remarkable mean absolute T2D risk score reductions (12.4% to 14.7%) compared to placebo (0.7%). These reductions held true across subgroups, including prediabetes and different body mass index categories. This study suggests a promising preventive strategy for T2D in at-risk individuals.
