In a study conducted on 8945 patients, tirzepatide, a dual receptor agonist, demonstrated significant effectiveness in reducing glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) levels and weight in patients with type 2 diabetes. After 40 weeks, a mean reduction of 0.6 ± 1.2% in HbA1c and 4.5 ± 6.9 kg in weight was observed. Notably, patients previously naive to GLP-RA treatment experienced a greater reduction in HbA1c and weight. Moreover, individuals who had undergone metabolic bariatric surgery achieved notably greater weight loss. The treatment was well tolerated, with only 7.8% discontinuing due to adverse effects, primarily gastrointestinal. Improvements in blood pressure, lipid profile, and liver transaminases were also reported. These findings highlight the real-world effectiveness of tirzepatide in managing type 2 diabetes.
