
A meta-analysis of 11 studies with 27,595 patients with central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) and 105,354 controls revealed tobacco consumption as a significant risk factor for CSC, with an odds ratio of 2.99 (95% CI: 1.82–4.93, p = 0.000017). This association remained significant in sensitivity analyses. Although the exact mechanism behind tobacco’s contribution to CSC pathophysiology is unclear, tobacco cessation is a modifiable behavior that may help in disease management. Further research is needed to assess the role of tobacco cessation in reducing CSC risk and improving prognosis.
