Trajectories of cardiovascular risk predict pregnancy outcomes: The Bogalusa Heart Study and the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study

A new study suggests that trajectories of cardiovascular risk factors may impact pregnancy and birth outcomes. The study revealed that higher and flatter diastolic blood pressure trajectories were associated with preterm birth, while consistent total cholesterol levels were also linked to preterm birth. Additionally, increasing systolic blood pressure and persistent-obese body mass index trajectories were associated with gestational hypertension and gestational diabetes mellitus, respectively.
