Tranexamic acid in endoscopic sinus and skull base surgery: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

This meta-analysis reviewed studies on the use of tranexamic acid (TXA) in endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) and endoscopic skull base surgery (ESBS). The objective was to determine if TXA improves surgical field quality and reduces intraoperative blood loss compared to control. The researchers searched various databases and included 17 ESS studies and one ESBS study. The results showed that both systemic and topical TXA significantly improved surgical field quality and reduced intraoperative blood loss compared to the control group. There were differences in operative times but no significant difference in perioperative outcomes or complications. The use of TXA did not increase the risk of thrombotic events.
