A recent study delving into Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) treatment in Sweden over 14 years has unearthed intriguing trends. Analyzing data from the national ROP register, SWEDROP, the study found significant shifts in ROP care. As Swedish screening guidelines narrowed from <32 to <30 weeks of gestational age, the number of screened infants dropped, while ROP cases requiring treatment increased. The study also noted changes in treatment methods; anti-VEGF injections became more prevalent, while laser treatment declined. Surprisingly, retreatment rates remained steady, but were more common after anti-VEGF injections. The research also highlighted differences in treatment approaches and retreatment rates among seven university hospitals.
