The article discusses the outcomes of fetuses with sustained supraventricular arrhythmias (SVA) who received in-utero treatment at 35-41 weeks of gestation. The retrospective case series involved 37 fetuses and found that in-utero treatment was successful in restoring sinus rhythm in 95% of cases within a few days. Anti-arrhythmic medications used included flecainide, digoxin, sotalol, and dual therapy. All fetuses were liveborn at 36-41 weeks via vaginal or Cesarean delivery. Recurrence of SVA after birth was observed in 57% of cases. The study suggests that in-utero treatment of near term and term SVA fetuses is highly successful and can help avoid unnecessary Cesarean sections.
