Trunk Inclination Effects on Respiratory Parameters

This study examines the impact of trunk inclination adjustments (from supine to semi-recumbent positions) on respiratory physiology in patients with respiratory failure on mechanical ventilation. Analysis of 13 studies involving 274 patients revealed varying effects: Decreased respiratory compliance and increased airway pressure in some. Improved ventilatory efficiency in C-ARDS patients, leading to reduced PaCO2 levels. Enhanced oxygenation in those showing increased end-expiratory lung volume (EELV) post-position change. Findings underscore the importance of accurately adjusting trunk inclination angles to optimize respiratory outcomes in critically ill patients.
