Tuberculosis fight recovering from COVID-19 knock but still off target- WHO

The global fight against tuberculosis (TB) is slowly recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic but still falls short of targets, warns a WHO report. During the initial pandemic years, approximately 4 million TB cases went undiagnosed and untreated annually, which slightly decreased to 3.1 million in 2022, returning to pre-pandemic levels. In 2022, an estimated 10.6 million contracted TB, with 7.5 million diagnosed. TB-related deaths decreased slightly, making it the second deadliest infectious disease after COVID-19.
