The study assessed the efficacy of a two-dimensional balance evaluation in detecting declines in postural control associated with the progression of Parkinson's disease (PD). Among 55 participants with PD, 37 were male, distributed across stages I, II, and III. Utilizing three clinical balance tests and a static stance test analyzed by a two-dimensional movement analysis software, a Postural Instability Index (PII) was derived. Results demonstrated PII's ability to differentiate between the first three stages of PD progression, offering a cost-effective means of early identification of subtle postural control changes in clinical settings.
