OPHTHALMOLOGY

The study introduced a novel two-way adjustable double-knots intrascleral fixation combined with a single sclerotomy looping technique for fixing intraocular lenses (IOL) without capsular support. A 30-gauge needle threaded with 8 − 0 polypropylene is used, with two overhand knots made and incarcerated into a scleral tunnel. The IOL is adjusted for optimal positioning. The 19 eyes showed increased uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) from 1.28 ± 0.74 to 0.44 ± 0.51. IOLs are well-centered with a mean tilt of 3.5°±1.1°. Complications include transient IOP elevation (15.8%), hypotony (10.5%), and cystoid edema (5.3%), resolving within four weeks. The technique offers reliable IOL positioning and improved visual outcomes.

A nationwide Colombian study identified 4,608 healthcare encounters related to childhood interstitial and diffuse lung disease (chILD) from 2016–2024. Average annual prevalence was 3.32 per 100,000 children, highest among infants and with a secondary rise during adolescence. Reported cases increased annually (IRR 1.022), while declining markedly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
