Understanding Myofascial Urinary Frequency Syndrome

This study introduces a unique urinary symptom phenotype, termed "myofascial urinary frequency syndrome" (MUFS), found in a third of individuals with urinary frequency. MUFS is characterized by persistent urges to urinate regardless of bladder volume, often accompanied by pelvic floor hypertonicity and impaired muscular relaxation. The study confirms this syndrome's association with pelvic floor myofascial dysfunction, distinct from overactive bladder (OAB), interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS), and asymptomatic cases. Pelvic floor myofascial release demonstrated symptomatic improvement, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and addressing MUFS in clinical practice.
