Unveiling Distinct Corneal Patterns in Post-LASIK Ectasia

A prospective multicenter study examined anterior corneal higher-order aberration (HOA) excimer ablation map patterns in postoperative LASIK ectasia (POE). The study analyzed 28 eyes from 22 patients and identified a consistent pattern: two elliptical paracentral ablation islands, mirror-like in opposition, accompanied by peripheral ablation crescents. The deep inferior island correlated with the apical POE cone. Ablation depth varied, with strong correlations between corneal irregularity index and depth differences. This distinct HOA pattern suggests potential diagnostic and monitoring applications for POE. Further studies are warranted to validate these findings.
