Upadacitinib Demonstrates Superior Long-Term Efficacy Over Methotrexate in RA

In a study, upadacitinib demonstrated superior efficacy compared to methotrexate (MTX) in patients with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) over 5 years. Of 945 patients, 775 completed week 48 and continued into the LTE. Observed analyses showed 53% and 59% of patients on upadacitinib 15 mg and 30 mg achieved Clinical Disease Activity Index (CDAI) remission at week 260, compared to 43% with MTX. Upadacitinib also resulted in better disease activity scores and greater structural joint protection. The 15 mg dose of upadacitinib maintained a favorable benefit-risk profile, demonstrating enhanced long-term efficacy compared to MTX while showing consistent safety with previous findings.
