Urine biomarkers in bladder cancer — current status and future perspectives

Research on urine markers for bladder cancer has been ongoing for years, with the idea that urine could provide valuable tumor information. However, the field is complex, with various urine markers at different stages of clinical validation, including proteins, genetic markers, and multiplex assays. Despite extensive research, these markers are not widely used in clinical practice. Prospective trials aim to improve the evidence and encourage guideline implementation. Efforts are being made to enhance current assays and address their limitations, while advances in next-generation sequencing may revolutionize the use of urine markers for bladder cancer diagnosis and treatment.
