US FDA approves Cue Health's at-home COVID test

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the Cue COVID-19 test for at-home use, making it the first test of its kind to receive marketing authorization through the premarket review process. The FDA previously granted emergency use authorization for the test in 2021. This approval comes about a month after the US ended the public health emergency status for COVID-19, which has resulted in numerous deaths in the country. The Cue COVID-19 test is the first at-home test authorized using the traditional review process for any respiratory condition, according to the FDA. This approval is part of the FDA's broader efforts to advance the development and availability of at-home tests for various conditions, aiming to expand patient access to testing. The test is capable of detecting all known variants of concern related to COVID-19.
