In a trial of outpatient head and neck surgery patients, two virtual reality (VR) experiences were compared for their impact on preoperative anxiety and postoperative pain. Two groups experienced VR interventions in different orders. Results showed both groups had similar reductions in preoperative anxiety and postoperative pain. No adverse events were reported. This study suggests different VR experiences have comparable effects on anxiety and pain reduction in such surgical patients.
