Using Phenotype Risk Score to Enhance Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Diagnosis in Electronic Health Records

The study assessed the effectiveness of a phenotype risk score (PheRS) and a genetic risk score (GRS) in identifying individuals with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in a real-world setting using electronic health records and DNA biobank data. The results showed that SLE cases had a higher PheRS and GRS than controls. Black SLE individuals had a higher PheRS but a lower GRS than White individuals. The PheRS had the highest accuracy in predicting SLE, and adding GRS did not improve its performance. The study suggests that PheRS can effectively identify established and undiagnosed SLE cases.
