
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is characterized by impaired kidney function and/or elevated urine albumin excretion and is the primary cause of end‐stage kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Early detection and prevention delay disease progression. This study aimed to validate a recently proposed risk prediction model for CKD in T2D. Subjects (n=10,922) had a mean age of 61 years, 6 years diabetes duration, 31.7 kg/m2 BMI, 6.9% HbA1c (52 mmol/mol), 9.1% had diabetic retinopathy, and 16.3% were smokers. The predictive model achieved moderate discrimination but good calibration in a German/Austrian T2D population, suggesting that the model may be relevant for determining CKD risk.
