VIALE-A Study Highlights Long-Term Efficacy of Venetoclax and Azacitidine in Chemotherapy-Ineligible AML Patients

Venetoclax-azacitidine, approved for newly diagnosed AML patients ineligible for intensive chemotherapy, showed significant long-term survival benefits. The final analysis, based on the VIALE-A study, revealed a median OS of 14.7 months with venetoclax-azacitidine versus 9.6 months with placebo-azacitidine. Notably, the 24-month OS rate was 37.5% and 16.9%, respectively. Any-grade hematologic and gastrointestinal adverse events were common, but no new safety concerns arose. These findings affirm venetoclax-azacitidine as a superior treatment option for AML patients unsuitable for intensive chemotherapy due to age or comorbidities.
