A randomized controlled trial was conducted with medical students from University College Dublin, Ireland, where participants were assigned to either an intervention group (VRLE) or control group (PowerPoint tutorial) and assessed using multiple-choice questionnaires at three-time points. The primary outcome of the study was to assess the differences in knowledge scores between the groups post-intervention, and the secondary outcomes included attitudes towards the learning experience using scales. The study found no significant between-group differences in the primary outcome, but both groups showed significant within-group differences in knowledge scores over time. The study concludes that VRLEs are useful learning tool that supports knowledge development.
