Volatile vs. Intravenous Anesthesia: Which is Safer for Postoperative Kidney Health?

This article is about a meta-analysis of the available literature on the relationship between anesthetic modality and postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI). The analysis included eight records and a total of 15,140 patients. The results showed that propofol anesthesia is associated with a lower incidence of postoperative AKI compared with volatile anesthesia. This information could be important for choosing anesthesia in patients with preexisting renal impairment or surgeries with a high risk of renal ischemia.
