Weight Gain Linked to Higher Diabetes Risk, Weight Loss Benefits Less Clear

A study of 8,377 adults over 6 years shows weight gain ≥5% significantly increases risk of type 2 diabetes, while weight loss ≥5% lowers risk only when initial weight is considered. Once attained weight is factored in, weight loss benefits are less clear. The findings highlight the importance of long-term weight management to prevent diabetes in midlife.
