
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports substandard syrup and suspension medicines discovered in the WHO Regions of the Americas, Eastern Mediterranean, South-East Asia, and Western Pacific. Initially detected in the Maldives and Pakistan, the affected products, including ALERGO Syrup and EMIDONE Suspension, have also been found in Belize, Fiji, and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. Manufactured by PHARMIX LABORATORIES (PVT.) LTD (Pakistan), 23 batches of these medicines contain unacceptable diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol levels. DRAP has instructed a production halt, and increased vigilance is recommended for related products produced between December 2021 and December 2022. No adverse effects have been reported to date.
