WHO Report: Global Measles Threat Escalates with Millions of Children Unvaccinated

Global measles cases surged by 18% in 2022, accompanied by a 43% increase in deaths, reaching an estimated 9 million cases and 136,000 deaths, primarily affecting children, states a joint report by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The rise in measles outbreaks, notably in 37 countries, underscores the urgent need for targeted efforts to combat declining vaccination rates. Despite a modest increase in global vaccination coverage, 33 million children missed doses in 2022, emphasizing the critical importance of enhancing preventive measures to safeguard communities worldwide.
