The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that nearly half the world's population is now covered by regulations limiting trans fat in foods. In 2018, the WHO aimed to eliminate industrially-produced fatty acids globally by 2023, but the deadline was extended to 2025. Currently, 53 countries, representing 46% of the global population, are implementing best practice policies to restrict trans fat. Despite the delay, an estimated 183,000 lives are being saved annually. WHO awarded certificates to Denmark, Lithuania, Poland, Saudi Arabia, and Thailand for progress in eliminating trans fats. The organization urges other nations to follow suit.
