Whole‐body oxidative stress reduction during testosterone therapy in aging men: A randomized placebo‐controlled trial

This study aimed to investigate the effect of testosterone replacement therapy on whole-body oxidative stress in aging men. The study involved 38 men aged 60-78 years who were randomized to receive either testosterone gel or a placebo for 24 weeks. The participants' body composition, oxidative stress markers, and testosterone levels were measured at baseline and after 24 weeks. The results showed that testosterone replacement therapy resulted in a decrease in whole-body oxidative stress, as evidenced by reduced levels of 8-oxoguanosine in urine samples. This decrease in oxidative stress was associated with changes in body composition, including increased lean body mass and decreased whole-body fat. The findings suggest that testosterone replacement therapy may have a positive impact on oxidative stress levels in aging men.
