In a study of 86 men aged 50+, those waking to urinate within 3 hours of sleep had increased free water and sodium clearance, and reduced urine storage capacity. Using 24-hour bladder data and urine chemistry, researchers found these factors independently predicted short first undisturbed sleep periods. Addressing these mechanisms may offer targeted strategies to improve nocturia in older men.
