Significant improvements were observed in a study assessing the XEN 45 Gel Stent for advanced glaucoma in eyes with prior failed aqueous shunt implants. Six patients with refractory glaucoma, who had persistent high intraocular pressure (IOP) despite multiple medications and previous glaucoma drainage device (GDD) surgeries, underwent XEN stent implantation combined with mitomycin C and tenonectomy. Over an average follow-up of 13.9 months, the mean IOP decreased significantly from 32.33 ± 5.99 mmHg to 12.67 ± 3.27 mmHg (p < 0.001). Medication use was reduced substantially, with only one patient requiring two drops by study end. The XEN stent proved to be a highly effective surgical option for managing advanced glaucoma following failed GDD interventions.
