Zuranolone for the Treatment of Adults With Major Depressive Disorder: A Randomized, Placebo‐Controlled Phase 3 Trial

In this study the effectiveness and safety of zuranolone, a medication that affects the γ-aminobutyric acid type A receptor, were evaluated for treating major depressive disorder. The trial involved patients aged 18-64 with severe major depressive disorder who were randomly assigned zuranolone or a placebo for 14 days. The main measure of efficacy was the change in depression severity according to the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale. Results showed that patients taking zuranolone experienced a statistically significant improvement in depressive symptoms compared to those on the placebo. The improvement was evident as early as day 3 and was sustained throughout the study period. Overall, zuranolone was well-tolerated, and the findings suggest its potential as a treatment option for major depressive disorder.
